Overwhelming surprise is how I felt when I learned that I had been nominated and awarded the designation of 2010 Central Floridian of the Year. Then I wondered if someone was pulling a joke on me. I was told six weeks ago when I thought I was meeting with Sentinel Columnist Darryl Owen to discuss Scott Maxwell's column about IDignity. I did not even know that there was a chance for the public to nominate people, as this is the first year they provided this opportunity. Yet many of you did and I can never thank you enough.
This is huge for IDignity and I am ecstatic about the opportunities it may provide to further our mission. It is wonderful marketing, that money simply could not buy. I have no idea what to expect, yet imagine it will be positive. This is also a great opportunity for you to reach out to those you know who do not yet know about IDignity.
Obviously this is also huge for me. I cannot express how moved I am by the kindness of so many. A special thank you to those that wrote-in on my behalf. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support and the designation. There are many that I believe are more deserving, yet a wise mentor once told me to never argue with those that buy ink by the truckload.
Thanks to everyone for the support of IDignity and our clients. This is certainly going to be an interesting year and I am so thankful to have you on the journey with me.
Peace,
Michael Dippy
"It is a great honor to IDignity and the Central Florida community that our Executive Director, Michael Dippy, was chosen by the Orlando Sentinel as 2010's Central Floridian of the Year. I can concur, on behalf of the Board of Directors, that Michael is everything and more as described by the Sentinel. He exercises humble and focused leadership to help our small, but mighty, effort at bringing identification within reach of thousands in our community. We echo this acknowledgment and are grateful for Michael's work, and the support of the citizens of Central Florida."
- Dr. Case Thorp, President of the IDignity Board of Directors
